Position Summary:
Plans for and administers a program of ministry seeking to put God’s love into action, bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. The role of the CEO is to administer, coordinate, manage, and implement the policies and procedures developed and approved by the Board of Directors that further the Habitat vision. “A world where everyone has a decent place to live.”
Education Requirement:
A Bachelor’s or higher level degree is required.
Key Responsibility Area: General Administration
Recommends policies to the Board and/or assists the Board and committees in the formulation of policies for the effective and economical operation of the organization; ensures implementation of policies adopted by the Board. Has chief administrative responsibility for the public accountability of the organization, manage the daily operations of the Habitat office, and regular reporting to various bodies. Carries chief staff responsibility to ensure that legal obligations of the organization are met.
Key Responsibility Area: Financial Management and Development (Specific Duties):
Together with the Chief Financial Officer, develop and manage an annual budget related to physical, financial, and human resources, and is accountable for control of these resources once approved. Together with the Chief Marketing & Development Officer, lead the effort in broadening the base of financial support, including but not limited to, recruit and mentor volunteers to secure funding, make individual solicitations and assure all contributions are acknowledged, and assist the Chief Marketing & Development Officer with events and appeal projects.
Key Responsibility Area: Personnel (Specific Duties):
Hires, directs, supervises and nurtures professional staff in the performance of their duties, evaluates the performance of key staff members; and provides overall direction for the personnel function of the organization.
Key Responsibility Area: Construction (Specific Duties):
Together with the Director of New Construction, facilitates the construction and rehabilitation of homes.
Key Responsibility Area: Board Relations (Specific Duties):
Develops and recommends to the Board of Directors specific long, and short-range plans, as well as policies and procedures for the development of the organizations programs and services; maintains appropriate relations with the Board and various Board committees and keeps them informed. Oversee the orientation, training, and nurturing of board members to ensure they are making worthwhile and fulfilling contributions.
Key Responsibility Area: Community Relations (Specific Duties):
Acts to maintain highly effective client relations throughout all of the organization’s programs. Maintain appropriate relations with other professional and social service groups in the community and serve on appropriate community committees. Interprets the function of the organization to the community through direct involvement and through public relations programs, including personal contact, literature, and the media.
Qualifications:
Above all, the person who becomes the CEO will consider the directorship a ministry in response to Habitat’s mission of eliminating poverty housing in Smith County. In addition, the CEO will be:
- A caring person, able to listen and to act compassionately on behalf of those in need.
- A capable administrator, able to motivate, train and supervise staff and volunteers.
- A recognized leader, who will have – or will quickly gain – the respect of the community, from whom he/she will solicit resources and with whom he/she will represent HFHSC.
- Experienced working with a non-profit organization and Board of Directors.
