The position of Director of Strategic HR Deployment holds significant importance in two key areas:
- The primary focus area is facilitating the creation of high-performance senior leadership teams and strategic HR best practices at the portfolio / operating companies that Vance Street controls.
- The secondary focus is leading the Human Resource and Regulatory systems throughout the Vance Street Management Company (i.e., investment professionals and support staff at Vance Street Capital).
The success of this individual will be tied to the recruitment of the Senior Leadership teams at each Vance Street portfolio company, the deployment of modern HR practices for outsized growth, and providing consultative services to help the portfolio companies build out high-performance leadership teams while transitioning through the chapters of the VSC Playbook.
Essential Job Functions
Portfolio Company Oversight (est. 80%):
- Participate in NewCo HR diligence.
- Lead the 180-day plan as it relates to the VSC HR best practices. (This will frequently require acting as interim HR manager at the portfolio company until a replacement is placed.
- Support the Vance Street Operating Partners in the recruitment efforts of the senior leadership teams (CEO, CFO, COO, CCO, VP OP's, VP Eng).
- Lead the NewCo strategic HR deployment efforts. (This will frequently require a rewrite of the HR systems and practices and deployment of an HRIS allowing the company to double in size in less than five years.)
- Collaborate with legacy HR teams to develop and implement HR policies and programs that are aligned with business needs and compliant with local regulations.
- Owner of the VSC Strategic HR Deployment tear sheet, a document created to share best practices across the portfolio companies. This will also require coordinate and facilitate annual best practices sessions.
- Provide ongoing assistance for mid-level recruiting and HR manager mentoring.
- Facilitate the integration of management teams during tuck-in acquisition integrations.
Vance Street Capital Management Company and Operating Company (est. 20%):
- Provide oversight to all employee payroll and benefit systems (ADP, healthcare, 401k).
- Provide oversight of modern practices of organization charts, job descriptions, and yearly review processes.
- Ensure compliance with HR policies, local labor laws, and regulations. Provide guidance on compliance-related issues and stay informed of legal changes that impact HR practices.
- Provide recruitment oversight and on-boarding best practices.
- Oversee employment agreements including Senior and Tactical Operating Partners.
- Provide career coaching and mentoring as required.
Requirements
Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education: Bachelor's degree in HR Management, Business Administration, or related field. MBA is a plus. Relevant HR certifications (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) are a plus.
Experience
- 12+ years of progressive demonstrated experience as a strategic HR leader, preferably in a Manufacturing or Operations environment with revenue greater than $100M annually. Track record of developing and implementing HR strategies aligned with business objectives. Strong generalist HR background with experience in multiple HR disciplines.
- Extensive knowledge of HR best practices and industry trends.
- Deep understanding of domestic and international HR practices and labor laws, including those in Canada, Mexico, Latin America, EMEA, APAC, as well as US multi-state regulations impacting policies and procedures, such as EEOC, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and other compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Experience establishing and building HR teams and processes from the ground up.
- Demonstrated success in talent acquisition, employee development, performance management, organizational development, employee engagement, and change management.
- Innovative thinker with a willingness to take risks while balancing on-time deliverables.
- Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to forge strong, trusting relationships with leaders, direct reports, board members, the Human Resources team, and external partners.
- Intermediate to advanced experience with HRIS/Payroll systems and Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Multi-site manufacturing experience preferred.
- Due diligence, assessment, and integration of M&A targets.
- Bilingual capabilities a plus.
- Private Equity experience a plus!
