The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for an Human Resources/Office Manager for the Jackson MS Corps, located in Jackson, MS.
Job Summary: Plans, coordinates, administers, monitors, and supervises the employee personnel program for the Jackson metro command including the Center of Hope, Thrift Store, social services and office personnel; coordinates and monitors the day-to-day operations including personnel records, promotions, transfers, recruitment, benefits, terminations, grievances, worker’s compensation, payroll, pension and health plan matters. Monitors and enforces personnel policies and procedures. Monitors and identifies areas for improvement within HR and office management practices and implements solutions that promote organization grown and employee satisfaction. Compiles, submits and maintains appropriate records with Divisional Headquarters including records requiring Divisional Finance Board approval. Prepares and processes payroll records; processes worker’s compensation claims; processes criminal background checks as required by Salvation Army policy and procedure and/or government contracts.
Manages office operations to ensure that administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time, including maintaining personnel files, managing office supplies, coordinating meetings, and overseeing general office upkeep. Acts as liaison between the Commanding Officer and other departments. Ensures a supportive and productive work environment is maintained.
Coordinates and supports various programs and events, particularly the annual Christmas/Thanksgiving program and other seasonal initiatives. Collaborates with other departments to ensure events are well organized and successful and that they contribute to the organization’s community engagement and outreach efforts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices particular to the department's administration. Knowledge of general office principles, practices and procedures. Knowledge of the principles and practices of the supervision and management of personnel. Knowledge of basic math. Skill at effectively and efficiently communicating with employees and the general public. Ability to satisfactorily complete online and classroom training and certifications as required by FEMA/MEMA to act as Salvation Army liaison and representative for disaster services. Ability to supervise, motivate and evaluate the work of office personnel. Ability to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Ability to motivate a spirit of unity, loyalty, and helpfulness within and among office staff. Ability to plan and assign work in a manner to ensure compliance with deadlines. Ability to become and remain certified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle per Salvation Army insurance requirement.
Experience and Education: Two full years course-work from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in the human resources or communications field, and three years progressively responsible experience working in an HR field where like duties are performed, with one year of supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Driver License.

Ability to plan work priorities, evaluate work performances and provide recommendations for improving productivity and efficiency of work. Ability to provide effective leadership to subordinates, maintain a variety of internal and external contacts and work cooperatively with superior and subordinate staff. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for extended periods of time when reading and preparing reports or resolving operational problems. Ability to make sound decisions and resolve operational problems in the absence of an immediate supervisor. Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines. Ability to determine the most effective and efficient method to accomplish work objectives and goals and to work under limited supervision. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
