The Human Resources Specialist provides overall service and support to management and employees in the area of human resources, including, but may not be limited to payroll, benefits, employee relations, and labor relations.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Consistently meet all Shell FCU Service Commitments; Shell FCU Employee Creed and Shell FCU Service Distinctions.
- Accountable to maintain knowledge of and comply with all applicable rules and regulations required within the scope of duties, including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Required to attend annual training sessions as instructed or scheduled.
- Perform job duties and responsibilities in compliance to SFCU policies, procedures, philosophy and standards of performance.
- Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws, and best practices.
- Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing procedures.
- Assist in calculating bonus plan and posting in a timely manner.
- Assist in creating department annual budgets.
- Comply with and maintain the Affirmative Action Plan by managing current and up-to-date logs, and ensuring timely submission.
- Ensure compliance with existing policies and research/develop new policies.
- Monitor SAFE Act registrations, updates and Annual renewals.
- Proactively address or bring employee issues and/or concerns to management's attention.
- Serve as a liaison between relevant vendors, such as staffing agencies, benefits agents, etc. and the department and/or staff.
- Assist managers with employee relations issues and employee counseling situations.
- Educate staff on employee benefits and make HR visible as an employee partner.
- Work with the Learning and Development Department to further Employee Development for future programs.
- Provide friendly and welcoming assistance to all employees.
- Act as a backup to other HR co-workers.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills
Experience:
A preferred minimum of two years of related or similar experience.
Education / Training:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Job Requirements:
- Basic knowledge and understanding of credit union philosophy and culture
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Consistently demonstrate a welcoming and helpful demeanor
- Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using good judgment that is consistent with the credit union’s standards, practices, policies, procedures, and regulations and/or government laws
- Familiarity with payroll, HRIS systems, general ledgers and basic accounting principles
- Be practical in completing tasks and assignments
- Have exceptional attention to detail
- Have an analytical mind and good math skills
- Must possess professional verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in an open-concept workspace/environment.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend and stand. May at times be able to lift, carry and/or move up to 15 pounds.
