Position Description: Human Resource Director
The HR Director will be responsible for the routine functions and day-to-day operations of Human Resources at Lighthouse Mission Ministries (LMM) including recruiting staff, administering benefits, coordinating leave, and on and off-boarding employees. The Director will act under the supervision of the President & CEO and operate within established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will bring HR expertise, a strong sense of integrity, and a desire to support staff as they minister to our homeless neighbors in Whatcom County.

Administrative Team Overview
The Human Resources Director (HRD) is a Senior Leader that plans, organizes, and directs all aspects of human resources management in such a manner as to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees, compliance with all Mission policies and legal aspects of employee/employer relationships. In addition, the HRD directs Mission recruitment and retention programs to ensure availability of appropriate staffing resources, serving as a resource to our Executive Team, department managers and other employees; monitors employee health activities and workers' compensation management; assists with benefits administration; and ensures appropriate documentation and record-keeping for regulatory compliance.
The Human Resources Director supports an environment and culture that enables the Mission to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding its goals; conveying the Mission vision to all staff; helping motivate staff to improve performance and be responsible for the operation of the HR department; and measuring, assessing, and continuously improving the department's performance.
- Working with C Suite Executives and Executive Functional leaders to align and deliver the Mission’s HR strategy.
- Leading annual HR hiring process calendar for Talent Assessment, Performance Management, Engagement Survey and Annual Compensation process for various Mission Departments and staff.
- Ensuring legal compliance and best practices by developing and implementing HR policies and managing employee relations.
- Designing organizational structure and recommending necessary HR programs and initiatives to support Lighthouse Mission objectives.
Director Responsibilities:
- Strategize Human Resources initiatives to reinforce the Mission, Vision, Core Values, and goals of the Mission.
- Design, implement, and lead HR programs to meet the needs of each ministry area. Includes all areas of HR: Organizational Development, Executive Coaching, Risk Mitigation, Policy & Compliance, Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Benefits, Employee Engagement, Performance Management, Training and Development, etc.
- Coach management to succeed in interpersonal and organizational leadership.
- Manage the HR department to develop talent and oversee responsibilities: HR Manager, Cultural Director, HR & Payroll Coordinator.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Identify staffing and recruiting needs; develop and implement best practices for hiring and talent management.
- Conduct research and analysis of organizational trends, including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (Bamboo Pro).
- Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
- Develop and implement departmental budgets.
- Facilitate professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of human resource management experience is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in the nonprofit industry.
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP are highly desired.
Work Environment:
This job operates in an office environment with an emergency shelter offering services on the upper and lower floors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Expected Commitment and Schedule:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with core hours being 8 am through 4 pm.
