Position Summary
To provide human resource generalist support for ancillary sites, such as but not limited to Great River Golf Club, Notre Dame Prep, Community Theater, and WSHU.
The HR Generalist provides comprehensive human resources support for various ancillary sites, ensuring that all HR functions are efficiently managed and aligned with organizational goals. This role requires a strong understanding of HR policies, procedures, and best practices and the ability to foster a positive and compliant workplace environment.
The HR Generalist will collaborate with various departments to address HR-related issues, drive employee engagement, and contribute to the overall success of the HR department.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Performance Management:
- Act as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries, addressing concerns promptly and effectively.
- Provide guidance on employee performance issues, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
- Support initiatives aimed at improving employee satisfaction and engagement.
- Assist managers with performance management processes, including the development of improvement plans.
- Maintain accurate records related to the implementation of HR policies and procedures.
Recruitment and Staffing:
- Collaborate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and define job requirements.
- Assist with recruitment processes, including budget verification, advertisement approvals, background checks, offer letter preparation, and onboarding.
Training & Development:
- Assist Exec Director for Training & Development with training and development programs, including Sexual Harassment Awareness training and New Hire Orientations.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning within the department.
- Work with managers to ensure they are properly prepared to manage their employees and departments/facilities.
HRIS:
- Maintain and update the HRIS database, ensuring that all employee records and personnel files are accurate and confidential.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the HR department.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Attributes
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or Organizational Development or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in an HR Generalist role or similar position, ideally as it relates to providing support to employees in all HR facets, especially with regard to employee relations management.
- Evidence of experience in Human Resources within the context of higher education,
- Knowledge of employment laws and practices, specific to ERISA, EEO, FMLA, and Affirmative Action, etc.
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping. Knowledge of Ceridian HR/Payroll Integrated system preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal and coaching skills; proven effectiveness with diverse groups across functional lines
- Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Self-directed and ability to establish priorities
- Bilingual preferred but not required.
Unusual Working Conditions
- Additional hours or work may be necessary as required by special projects, workload demands, or deadlines.
- Some travel required to ancillary sites (Milford, downtown Fairfield)
